In the final scene, "Dave" is overwhelmed by the insistent bot nagging and snaps. Of course, the bot voices had to be rendered through mechanical means. I chose to vocode Jake's reading of the bots' lines. But rather than simply apply a broad-spectrum carrier, I tried something a little different. ( Read more... )

I started with Jake's reading of his story, and the first thing I did was tweak it with EQ and compression, turning it into this. Then plugging it into my DAW and adding reverb. So far, not controversial.

Then I started cutting up the paragraphs and spacing them out. After all, I had to leave room for the music to "breathe", didn't I? ( Read more... )

Added more sound effects - whine of bots being generated (patches: Alien In The Sewer and Metal Androids), chair reconfiguring itself (patches: Droid's Theme and Dr. No's Factory). Also "Disturbed Dreams" (patches: Acpala and Encircled by Ghosts), previously reported, brings me up to 25.4 hours.
